We had dinner last night at what has been hyped to be a very good new restaurant in the Woodmont section of Milford - The Beach House. On almost all accounts, the meal left us wondering what all of the hoopla is about.
To their credit, they did a spectacular job of renovating the property and the the space is truly beautiful. The bar is especially gorgeous and the wine display wall is awesome (to back up a stellar wine list). That being said, virtually everything we ate was expensive and ordinary. Almost everything was very underseasoned and begged for salt, pepper, and in the case of every seafood dish, lemon.
One of the featured salads was a beefsteak tomato salad, and it definitely not being the season for "real" tomatoes, my wife asked the waiter very emphatically whether the tomatoes were, in fact,juicy and succulent, and was assured that they were beautiful and wonderful. They were, in fact,like cardboard. My crabcakes were, at best,okay, and again, screamed for lemon or something to impart flavor. My $30 "organic etc" fillet rated a hearty "okay," definitely not distinguishable from anything else.
All in all, this was a huge disappointment, and I can think of dozens of places in this price range (or below) that provide a far more satisfying experience.
