Stopped in for a quick bite into the new Bao on 2nd Ave and 22nd. This place is going to rock. Its the sister restaurant of Bao 111 on Ave C and I think they own an Australian place on Ave C as well.
Anyway, they have 5 $20 regional 4 course meals which looked fascinating. Also, a full menu chock full of goodies. We opted to pick and choose or apps entrees. Ill be back for the $20 deal.
Our Apps were excellent:
Summer Rolls - Soft rice paper wrap, nicely steamed shrimp and a wonderfully spicy Ponzu sauce.
Boneless Short Ribs - Tender, nicely spiced and served with a thick scallion stem running through the middle.
Beef and Pork Noodle Soup - Highligt of the meal. Just get it, this soup was amazing
Entrees were so-so
Wok stir fried Flank Steak cubes were tough.
Grilled Whole Snapper in Bao Sauce - Awesome sauce, fish was a bit overcooked as well
Pork Belly - Up there with the soup as best dish
Spicy Fried Rice - Delish, slightly crispy but not particularly spicy.
It was there 2nd day open, so ill cut the kitchen some slack. The foundation is there. Im psyched.
Another good sign. Their Nouc Mam was some of the best I have ever had.
