I had a light dinner here the other night with a friend, and I'm wondering if perhaps we ordered the wrong things.
My friend is not what I would consider a chowhound, she doesn't like really spicy food and she doesn't eat red meat. Oh, and she "doesn't care much for curries"! (What were we doing going for Thai food you ask? Answer: she was having a craving for Phad Thai.)
We ordered a chicken and green bean dish with kaffir lime leaves and curry paste that tasted so overwhelmingly fishy that I couldn't eat it. My guess was that someone went overboard with the fish sauce. On the other hand, the dish (which was also pretty hot) was unpalatable in such an unWestern way that I have no idea if that was a bad preparation or if it was actually "authentic" and just not to my taste.
The Shrimp Phad Thai was okay, but had four (count 'em, four!) smallish prawns.
Since the place is (a) pleasant, (b) has a nice selection of wines by the glass, and (c) is just down the block from the Grand Lake Theater, it would be nice to know if it's really a bad restaurant, or if we just happened onto some mistakes.
