Bamboo on Venice Blvd in Culver City

The sign advertising soft shell crabs drew me in last night for dinner at Bamboo in Culver City. The menu has some Brazilian stuff, some Jamaican stuff, and some other Carribbean stuff. That's a bit schizophrenic, but not enough that it seems to screw them up. The soft shell crabs I had were sauteed really well -- there was just enough crunch on the crab without scorching it. The black beans and plaintains were nice on the side, but I ignored the rice, which was pretty bland. My wife's mussels and shrimp were great, too. Service was good and the price seemed about right ($30 per person, but keep in mind that I ordered the most expensive thing on the menu.) We'll probably go back at some point because we frequently find ourselves hungry and driving on Venice Blvd. Though, there are so many good options in that stretch of Venice Blvd that there is plenty of competition...
