Ball-gown friendly, dinner/dancing with my honey?

Hi Chowhounds,

I had a Cancer Care-benefit gala this upcoming monday, however unfortunate my Guest of Honor is scheduled for radiation this weekend and therefore we won't be able to attend. (I have planned a movie/pizza/video game fest at the hospital for that night so he won't feel too left out)....

My question for you all- since we will be missing the ball, my vintage Dior (took out a second mortage to afford) beauty of a dress stands alone flanked by workout clothes and sneakers in the back of my closet.

Far (FAR!) from regulars on the NYC black-tie circut, I can't imagine any other chance we will ever have to get dressed up again. This being said, can anyone recommend a place for us to get decked out to the 9s later? I'd like somewhere that for a special treat, he could wear a nice suit (no tux) and I could bust out the dress....

Dinner and dancing would be superb, and any "old new york" sinatra-type atmosphere would make it all the more special...

Do places like this even exist anymore in NYC? Thank you everyone for your replys and suggestions!
