Baker's Yeast Inhibits Drunkenness? per Jim Koch

I DID do a CH search, figuring this must have been discussed ad infinitum, but i found nothing. Have youall read this article by the (I'm told; i had no idea who he was) well respected beer expert Jim Koch?
Has the technique worked for you? I know this invites all kinds of guffaws and sarcasm, but I am actually hoping for serious responses.

Why? A friend is going to have a gastric bypass later this year; he will be left with an egg sized 'pouch' and even a small amount of alcohol would have major effects because of the rerouting of internals and the alcohol getting absorbed so differently. When I saw this article, I wondered if it might be a way for him to still enjoy a small drink every now and then..... But if it's a falsehood, i don't want to tell him about it and get his hopes up. Thx v much for your help.
