I have not been to this place since it was the Lobster Shanty however many years ago. We decided to go there for happy hour 2 nights over the past few weeks and I was pleasantly surprised at the renovations. Anyone who had been to the Lobster Shanty in the past knows it was very dated and need a facelift. Now it is very clean with nice hardwood floors with 2 bars inside and 1 bar outside. We only had apps during happy hour (which are 1/2 price) and the portions are plenty. The nachos were very good, the sliders were...well sliders (nothing to write home about), the wings were good, but the calamari was not. The calamari was not fresh and not tender....it had to be of the frozen variety. We also had a "Neapolitan inspired" pizza from their "wood fired oven". The pizza is neither Neapolitan OR from a wood fired oven. On the way out as my girlfriend used the bathroom, I made my way over to the pizza bar. I asked the guy behind the bar what type of flour they used for the pies and he said "just normal (AP) flour". This is not the type of flour that is to be used for Neapolitan pies. The oven itself is large and very nice looking, but is not wood fired. It is gas with a few logs over the flame to make it look like its wood fired. The pies we had the 2 times we were there were ok and baked very differently each time...not very consistent. Overall it is a decent place in a great location overlooking the river with outside seating on the deck.
Has anyone else had any experience here? I would be curious what your thoughts are on this place.
Thanks in advance!
