Bad to the Bone BBQ in San Juan Capistrano - thumbs up!

Heard about this place the last couple of months (it opened late last year) and decided to check it out last Saturday night...and we enjoyed it enough to make a return visit with some friends last night!

BttBBBQ is a smallish place in a business park/retail area of SJC just off I-5 at Ortega Hwy. Owners are from OK and do a wide variety of BBQ and assorted homemade sides. Fri and Sat nights they feature smoked prime rib which I didn't try but it looks good. RIbs, chicken, brisket, tri-tip, pulled pork, get the picture...alsong with salads and sandwiches. Kid menu is nice $3.99 gets you a meal including drink and oreo cookies. Family packages meant for to go orders (but we got one there last night) have kinda strange price/qty points, but the small family pkg for $40 includes a slab of ribs, a whole chicken, a pound of brisket and 3 family-size sides. It says feeds 3-4 but i MORE than fed a group of 6 of us (4 adults, 1 teen and 1 kid) last night.

Definately smoke here, folks! I'm a fan of great "BBQ-style" food and really don't care if it's low and slow or whatever...just that it tastes good. That being said, the pink ring abound here, with meats cooked over hickory and applewood. The ribs seem to be the star...both the baby backs and spares were some of the best I've had.

The place is line up and order, seat yourself and they bring food to you. Small dining room that was packed both times we were there (and with good reason). Great flat panel TV showing sports as well. No reservations.

A gem that could become a real favorite place of mine...I'm looking forward to trying some of the rest of the menu.
