Ba Ren Versus Spicy City

I went to Spicy City today for the second time ever, the first was a few years ago.

I ordered the Spicy Tofu Beef. The dish arrived in the same type of large bowl as Ba Ren. Difference was 12.95 for Spicy City vs 7.99 for Ba Ren. You can get two different meats in a combination at Ba Ren for 8.99.

The dish was very disappointing for me at Spicy City. The beef was of a poor quality and sliced thin. It was cooked a little rare which I like but the meat itself was of a lesser grade than at Ba Ren. Tougher and much less flavor. Also the chili broth that was in the Spicy City version seemed to lack any sichuan peppercorns. It was more just a red chili sauce and not with a lot of depth.

So for 33% more at Spicy City all I got was air conditioning the food was really surprisingly poor.

Adios to Spicy City.

Hola to Ba Ren.
