When it was announced a couple of months back that a family-owned and operated Mexican restaurant was going to open in the former Cord D's spot in Elm Hill Plaza I was pretty excited. The western Syracuse suburbs could use such a place. While not overwhelming, their Oswego restaurant gets decent reviews.
Well, tonight we tried a take-out order, and I must say we are underwhelmed. We both got an order of chips and queso, which was pretty good. The queso had a nice flavor with a spice that was pleasant but not overpowering and the chips were fresh and crisp.
The "Taco Trio" was a different story. Three soft flour tortillas had ground beef, shredded lettuce and cheese. No tomatoes, no onions, no peppers. The ground beef had a mealy texture with only a mild spice to it. I won't be choosing this again.
Mrs. Boilermate's Taco Salad wasn't much better. She also said the ground beef was "mealy" and not too flavorful. It was bland, even for her.
The menu doesn't offer options (mild, spicy, etc.).
Their menu has lots of other choices, so we will give them another chance, but the first impression wasn't the best.
