AXE dinner report (March 18)

Wanted to go to Joe's but could not get a convenient time for dinner reservation, so off to Axe next door ...

Started with the grilled flatbreads and what seemed like a never ending carousel of spreads ... hummus, sweet onions, fava beans and so forth. All were delicious as were the other starters, including a mixed baby green salad.

Tried the whole roasted trout ... very light and moist, although a bit under-flavored IMO. Could've done without the lentils.

The roasted chicken was nice, but didn't move any of us, same for the double cut pork chops.

Heard great things about the homemade ice creams, but to me they tasted just like any other ice cream, which is to say they were sweet, cold and creamy. Nothing wrong with them, but nothing to go "ga-ga" over.

Decor is from the R-23 school of minimalism ... um, can I get a seat cushion, please?

Service was fine and, in fact, a bit overbearing at times ("NO! Don't fill my water again, I haven't taken a sip since the last time you refreshed it...")

Would I go back? Sure.

Would I go back instead of going to Joe's? Probably not.
