Had dinner last night at the newly opened "500 Jackson", which is the old Cypress Club space. I don't know if this will last but right now, the portions are rather hefty and the prices reasonable, resulting in a great value.
Each dish was solid but standouts were the New England Clam Chowder, the Cioppino and the butterscotch pudding dessert (dessert menu cutely stamped on the table). You don't go here for the newest and most creative seafood offering but the basics are executed very very well.
Wine list matches food and is very fairly priced, although inventory seems a bit up in the air as they were already out of the one we ordered. Substiution was great though, a 2001 Puligny Montrachet from Dujac. Corkage is $15.
Cypress Club decor, for the most part, remains....but a facelift avoids a dour ambiance.
