i went to school in austin, but i haven't been keeping up with the restaurant scene the past few years. i'm hoping you all can help!
here's my situation. in mid-april i'll be with a group of 6-8 girls for a bachelorette party looking for a semi-nice/fun/trendy place for food (we figured we could either do a sit-down dinner or order lots of apps/tapas and be a little less formal/cheaper?), then we'll head to 4th street for drinks/dancing (we prefer 4th & 5th and NOT 6th street). we're prefer to stay near downtown for everything and we're on a bit of a budget (we'd like to stay around or under $30/person for food). the other girls (besides the bride) aren't familiar with austin, so they can't provide much input.
here's what i've come up with so far:
mars - i know it's not really downtown and a little pricey, but i remember really liking the food. how is it now?
trudy's - same as above (not really trendy, but the stuffed avocado is enough to make me want to move back to austin!)
another bar next to saba (i can't remember the name, but it's kind of downstairs, and i think there's a couch in there)
any opinions on 219 west?
i wasn't much of a swinging hipster back in my college days!
any suggetsions would be great. thanks!!!
