Went to an early dinner at Aureole this evening and am pleased to report it was excellent (as per many chowhound responses to my earlier post)
Amuse bouche of salmon tartare delicate and full of flavor. App I chose was a stuffed artichoke with difft types of exotic mushrooms. Perfect but could have been a meal in itself. My husband had the oyster app that had a difficult to describe sorbet on top. My least favorite part of the meal.
We ordered the entree special. Daring for me as I dont like veal generally. Well...WOW!!!
Loin of veal wrapped in prosciutto with potato risotto, mustard greens, wild mushrooms and carmelized onions.
Some type of red wine sauce.
The size of the dish was not human. Three huge pieces of loin on each plate and about as rich as it comes. We each managed to finish one piece. Rest is in fridge.
I went the sorbet/fruit dessert route as I couldnt breathe but my hub decided to go for it and get cheese plate. YUM.
Service was impeccable...great bottle of zinfandel and an overall almost perfect meal. One question.....on the bill there was a space for the tip and another line for the captains tip. What is that all about chowhounds?
We had one gentleman take the main order, ask how everything was and the rest was handled by an efficient group of waiters/busboys.
Sorry for the ramble. Thats the scoop. Going to get in pajamas now.
