ate through NOLA!

always hungry in NYC | Dec 8, 2004 09:19 PM

JUst got back! These are my findings: Acme is awful. why is everyone waiting in line for a filthy restaurant with communal tables? their Jambalaya was the worst I had the whole trip. Thank god the service is super fast and rushed, because we couldn't get out fast enough. For something upscale, Bayonna had some of the best food I have ever had, competes with the best of New York City restaurants. Overall winner was Coop's Place. This dive bar on Decatur Street had wonderful Gumbo and Red Beans & Rice, as well as the best oyster po'boy of the trip. You must try the smoked duck quesadilla! All this satisfaction at around six bucks! We ate there three times. Also, the muffaletta at Central Grocery was pretty much the best sandwich on the planet. Believe the hype and suddenly you forgot about the wait in line and don't even mind the resulting indigestion. The beignets at Cafe Du MOnde are highly over rated blobs of greasy dough that aren't any different from a funnel cake at a street carnival. Mr. B's was very good, but not amazing. FOr the price I'd rather go back to Bayonna.
