I felt compelled to share the wonderful experience I had at Artu last night...I was supposed to meet my mother and 4 of her friends at Figs for an 8:30 dinner. I arrived at 8:25 and was told that we had missed the last seating. I went outside to sit on a bench in front of the Paramount to wait for mom and co. Meanwhile, people (mostly groups of 2) kept going into Figs and getting seated. Grrrr.
I called Artu and asked if they might be able to accommodate a party of 6 on the short notice. They happily said they could do it. My mother and her group did not show up until 9pm--when Artu closes! We walked over anyway and they agreed to stay open for us. The entire restaurant was ours. The food was wonderful and we had possibly the best server in Boston. He was funny, patient, and v. knowledgeable about both the food and wine. When the bill was paid by credit card by someone with the last name Sullivan, he handed it back to her and said, "Here you go, Sully." Spoken with a thick Boston accent, natch. It was perfect for these out of towners. He insisted that we not rush on his behalf.
Particular stand outs were the shrimp and portabella mushroom appetizer, the orichette (sp?) with broccoli rabe and shrimp in garlic, the lobster ravioli, and the chicken marsala. Desserts were also delicious--white chocolate mousse cake, key lime cheesecake and raspberry cheesecake. Dinner for 6 with wine was $180, not bad!
