Art's. Two-Lane Drive thru -- Burgers, Dogs, Pastrami & Breakfast

Like-Go-Eat? | Nov 1, 2005 01:17 PM

OK, here’s a local secret – “Art’s.” Burgers, Steaks, Pastrami, Chili Dogs and Breakfast always served Hot at this cool old Two-Lane Drive Thru. Art’s has a Cheese Burger that is better than In-n-Out, a Chili Dog better than Tommy’s, a Pastrami better than The Hat and Fries as good as McDonalds. Art’s also has Chili Cheese-fries and a Breakfast selection. I had a Breakfast Burrito at Art’s today that was almost to hot to eat. I had coffee and a two egg and cheese burrito with tomato and onion for a total of $2.52. When I pulled in the two-lane drive thru I choose the left lane because there was one less car was waiting there than the right lane. In less than three minutes Art handed me my burrito hot off the grill through my passenger window. "Show me!" OK, Art’s is a cool old two-lane drive-thru originally built to compete with “In-n-Out” and was the first Burger stand in the area. Since then McDonalds built a stand directly across the street in the 1960's and in the 1980's Wendy’s built right next to McDonalds. Wendy’s is long gone and now Tommy’s is located in the old Windy’s drive-thru. Art’s not survived all that competition but thrives. The reason Art’s does so well is a combination of good food and being able to process the traffic through the Two-Lane drive thru as fast as he can make the Hot food. I have noticed that across the street at McDonalds and a nearby In-n-Out that the only traffic jam longer then the one in the single lane drive thru is the line inside of bags of food getting cold as they sit waiting to be handed out the single service window. At Art’s the twin right/left service windows consistently hand out Hot “Fast Food.” A single lane Drive thru works fine if you need a prescription filled at Walgreens but not if you want “Hot Food" A cold burger is Waaaay UnCool. Art’s is a Must Try. In the San Gabriel Valley Located almost under the 10, Fry at Valley Blvd.
