Artisanal Land of Cheese

Finally got around to dining at Artisanal. Did Chowhound research beforehand. Some posters didn't like the service, some the food. Our stategy was to make sure we had room for the cheese plate. The room reminded me of a Brasserie like Balthazar. Busy, noisy, nice happy buzz.Service was fine, very friendly. No problem switching table from noisy part of the room to less noisy.Good varied wine list(even some Swiss) with fair pricings and tons (liters) available by the glass. The food was good. Addictive warm basket of cheese puffs (Gregeres?),good Dover Sole with olive oil and sorrel sauce, slightly gooey vegetable risotto with morels and peas.Basically you come to this place for the cheese.Three full pages of cheese. Fondues. Wine and cheese flights. Cheese flights by country.Favorite cheeses of American Vice Presidents. Cheeses arranged by astrological signs, Etc. The cheese here is great, not only because of the variety but they also know how to take care of it properly. Taking Chowhound advice we asked the fromageur to pick a selection of 6 for us that would match up with a white wine. She had good taste and was nice enough to add a seventh. Had a fruit plate and a dried fruit plate also.We left that evening feeling very happy, sated and extremely lactose tolerent.
