Had dinner at Aquitaine last night. Everything was excellent except for a few service issues.

We all started with the Coquille St Jacques except for my husband who had the escargot. We had to all send back the scallops because they were cold. Obviously pre-made and then popped under the broiler but for not long enough. 2nd time back around they were very creamy with about 3 extremely flat scallops (which seemed weird) under the topping. Dish was good but have definitely had better. The escargot was the real winner, about 10-12 snails in warm butter sauce with shallots, garlic and lots of fresh herbs. Hubby couldn’t get enough and thankfully for us, plenty so he was willing to share.

For dinner we had 2 steak frites, which were perfection. Cooked perfectly, one med rare, one med. Sauce was divine and frites were piled high, nicely salted and virtually greaseless. 2 other dishes were the steak au poivre, which again was perfectly, cooked with just the right bite of pepper and some potato side the escapes me. Last dish was the duck special, again cooked perfectly with a wonderful pink color, served with lentils, which was a nice change. Rather large rim of fat on the duck slices that I thought could have been trimmed a little more since there was no skin to speak of but still wonderful with that classic gamy flavor.

Dessert was some kind of pudding with caramelized banana-I passed since I am not a banana fan- and profiteroles that could have come from any local supermarket freezer. Overall we were underwhelmed. Gals had tea which was just teabags, kind of surprising I thought. I can't remember the last high-end place I have been to that doesn't have fresh brewed.

I wasn't drinking but the rest of table each had 2 cocktails (Try the French manicure! Vodka, Chambord, lime and little sour mix. Recommended by the waitress and except for the name, the table loved them) then a bottle of nice French cab, about $60.

Couple of issues:
When we sent back the scallops they didn't keep track of who's was who's so some us got the ones with bites out them from when the 2 people who tried them and found them cold. I got the one with a bite missing even though I hadn't tried mine. Could have been handled better.

We started the night with a bottle of Perrier. None of us were really paying attention next thing you know the bill included 6 bottles. Yikes! She never mentioned it just kept opening new bottles away from the table. Yes we should have noticed but she should have asked before opening more.

Total with tax and 18% tip: $390 something and change
