AOC Revisited....

You guys aren't the only one who wonder… How the heck does Dommy get around so much?! Well… I love my car, I have a completely full Ipod and I'm a native, I know all the shortcuts… heh… But mostly it's because I'm very 'social' and although most of my pals aren't hounds, I'm always looking for opportunties to indulge into some amazing chow when they invite me somewhere…

Case in point.. Last night my friend invited me to a meeting where the catering was a stack of Egg Rolls from the $1 Chinese down stairs and two buck chuck… Not suprisingly, most of the folks were hungry after, so restaurants talk happened and when AOC was mentioned among a list of nearby joints, my friend muttered she'd never been… AH HA!! So off we went…

Working on campaigns together, most of our dinners were the liquid type (Hence, all I had to say was "Wine Bar" and she was tugging at my sleeve…). So when we got to our table, I asked her if there was anything she didn't eat to work the menu around that. She said… "Beef and Pork" Uh oh…. Gone was the bacon wrapped dates! No divine pork cheeks! You should have seen her face when I mentioned the "Blood Sausage" that were in the mussels…

So after our first wine order was taken (We enjoyed Carafes of The Rose and Gewürztraminer) and then made some 'careful' selections…

First up was a cheese plate... She picked all hard cheeses they were yummy, but nothing was truly outstanding (I'm more of a blue/soft/runny cheese fan). However, I do note it because someone had mentioned their small cheese portions before. This was my first cheese plate experience at AOC and the the portions were more than fine. On the cheese plate were wonderful walnut halfs and lots of yummy dried figs.

Cauliflower, curry and red vinegar. A fave from my last visit. It was great as usual, but prepared slightly different from my April visit. The curry sauce over them was more runny, they were prepared more soft, they had hardly any char from the wood burning oven. The portion was bigger! Hmm… I wonder if there is any truth to the idea that perhaps when Suzanne is in the Kitchen, things come out differently…

Aspagus, Tomatoes and Smoked Ricotta. Wonderful THIN tender stalks of Asparagus. The tomatoes were bursting with flavor and you could REALLY taste the smoke…

Squash and Parmesan. Slices of baby squash baked with a sprinkling of Crispy Parmesan on top. The sweetness and softness of the squash worked so well with the saltiness and crispness of the Parmesan. Definatly recommended…

Finally, the best dish of the night… clams and sherry with garlic toast. A little cast iron skillet absoultely FULL Of juicy fat little clams! The smell was amazing!! The toast on top was delish and PLENTIFUL. Of course, the best part of a dish like this, is the juice that is found at the bottom of the skillet… You could REALLY REALLY taste the sherry… YUM!!! I definatly perfer this to their mussles dish… Blood sausage be dammed!! LOL!

No dessert we were stuffed!! (Yeah, we did have an egg roll or two at the meeting… heh…) but she loved it and as I said goodbye and was on my way back to Long Beach… my friend wondered outloud… how the heck do I know about these great places so far from my house… I just smiled and said, I know 'people'… ;)
