Every year my husband and I splurge on an upscale restaurant for our anniversary.
Two years ago, we went to Sona and had the tasting menu. We absolutely loved it - the food was exquisite, the service was impeccable, and the ambience was nicely modern.
Last year, we went to Bastide and had the tasting menu. Sadly enough, we were disappointed. I guess we just don't enjoy pop rocks in our food, freeze dried stuff, or quail eggs and strawberries in test tubes. If that makes us boring, so be it.
Anyway, this year, we are on a search to find a place that can compete with Sona or at least, a place that doesn't make us want to gag.
Any suggestions? I know there are many on this board that hate Sona and love Bastide, so to be clear, this is just our opinion and we're glad if people had different experiences from ours. I just wanted to provide a sense of what we like.
