I'm not sure if this is a law or just a coincidence, but it seems like in Little Saigon the more obscure the restaurant location the better the food. Today's lunch was a case in point. Pho Dakao is hidden behind a mini-mart in a nondescript corner mall like a thousand others. The only reason we were there is because of a tip from Vietnamese in-laws...
Pho Dakao's specialty is chicken soup, and what they do with a few simple ingredients is magical. The bowl has chunks of chicken breast floating in a chicken broth with rice noodle and a little chopped scallion, served with a sweet dipping sauce on the side. Sounds simple enough, but the execution was flawless. The chicken pieces were succulent and melt in your mouth tender, the broth was rich and delicious, and the rice noodle had an almost al dente tooth I've never encountered before. Superb in every way.
