last night i had the best dumplings/steamed buns i've ever had at joe's ginger (on mott, just below hester).
they were pork and crab buns, and they were filled with so much juice you have to tear them open on top and suck out the juice before you can bite in. amazing!
the rest of the food was good to very good. the scallion pancakes were good, but no better than they are at most places. kung pao shrimp and kidneys was very good. pan fried noodles were fine, but i wouldn't recommend, and we had a whole braised fish special that was good.
it was a pleasant atmosphere, nicer than the average chinatown restaurant, with a mixed crowd, and a very friendly staff. the menu was interesting, and it was byob for wine.
but i wil definetly go back for those steamed buns alone!
