Alouette for Private Party -- report

We had a private party on Saturday night for 26 people at Allouette on 98th and Broadway, UWS. They have private parties on the 2nd floor, normally used for regular diners. Very nice space. Service was excellent. The menu was fantastic and the food was very good (main course was choice of hanger steak, duck, or salmon, I got the steak. Delicious, but a bit rare for my taste, though I understand that's normal with french cooking.) The price was phenomenal. I would definitely recommend this place for a small private function. Chantal is the owner, very French, and very service oriented. On another note, I got the cake from Polka Dot Cake studio (on top of the dessert served with the dinner) It was nicely decorated, but it was very small for the amount of people it was serving (I told them how many people we were expecting and this is the size they recommended.) Also, the yellow cake was moist, but flavorless and the icing was even more so -- very sweet with no flavor at all. The only decent thing was the raspberry filling, which tasted like fresh raspberries. Overall, would not recommend Polka Dot for a cake.
