Almar: Where the Dumbo General Store and Hecho en Dumbo used to be

Last night, we got together with some Dumbo friends & went to AlMar, (a combination of the owners' names). The owners are both from Noodle Pudding (the floor manager/owner was my favorite bartender at NP & the chef was, well, a chef) and we had an excellent dinner. Decent wines, nice crostini, very good meatballs, salads and assorted other things to start. Our friends had mains of chicken & swordfish and both were good in both quality and quantity (or so it seemed). My wife and I both had pastas and they were excellent (nice meaty version of bolognese, made with spinach fettucine, for me & a paparadelle with several varieties of fresh mushrooms for her). It still looks like the place is a work in progress but it's more than worth a visit now and will probably get better as they get their feet wet. Nice addition to the area & we'll definitely go back.
