There is a festival celebrating the cultural diversity of Waterbury CT May 18th at Library Park in downtown Waterbury.
So far they have confirmed there will be Irish, Dominican, Albanian, Greek, Brazilian, Italian, Lebanese, and Puerto Rican food. There will also be a parade, music, and booths.
The festival is from 11:00am to 7:00pm, and they claim the parking garages downtown will be open and free and the park is across the street from the Metro North train station.
I always think of Waterbury as a baby Bronx because the ethnic makeup of the population is very similar....very Dominican/Puerto Rican, Albanian, Jamaican, with a hardy group of Italianos still hanging in there. I hope they have good weather. It should be fun.
Architecture fans note that Library Park was designed by the Olmstead brothers and is in the middle of the Cass Gilbert design district(city hall and several buildings around it). Don't forget the clocktower built by McKim, Mead & White visible from the park.
