Didn't think we could top our previous visit there, but we did. Reserved the 'Chef's Counter' - 4 seats on each side of the bar overlooking the kitchen. Helps if you are tall as very high counter (my 11 year old missed alot - was considering asking for a telephone book for her!)
Alan was right there - overseeing everything - incredible entertainment. Sorry if a bit fuzzy about the food - was over 3 weeks ago & I'm total jello from a long Hawaiian vacation. I order the chef's tasting menu, but we also wanted tastes of his special macaroni & cheese - he sent out 3 large spoons filled with orzo in an incredible sauce topped with truffles. Highlights - deconstructed tiramisu - espresso granita in 1 little cup, unbelievable cake in another & my favorite, simply flavored mascarpone sitting all by itself for me to scoop up & enjoy every bite withou all the other ingredients diluting the wonderful cheese feel & taste in my mouth. 5 sorbets - passion fruit the best & true flavor. A mango 'shave ice' dessert - my husband ate it all before I could figure out what was in it. I think tapioca was involved.
Everything else a blur - excellent fish, killer potstickers, awesome steak, slightly too undercooked lobster poached in butter sauce - and after 2 glasses of wine, I felt free to tell Alan. He was very apologetic & sent out a crab dish that was heaven.
My main advice is to reserve & sit at Chef's Counter - it will all be good, but great to meet the master & enjoy him sending out extra 'tastes' & goodies for us for our opinion - was just my idea of a fantastic evening. Plus the best bread in all of Hawaii... we'll be back - again & again.
