Aiyara in Ottawa

Went to Aiyara for dinner tonight. It's a new-ish Thai restaurant in a strip mall on Walkley Road.

Food was awesome. Not greasy or overcooked, as is often the problem with Ottawa Thai food. The menu is varied, with a lot of dishes I hadn't seen around here - esp. the veg menu, which is pretty extensive. Plus they'll make the other dishes without shrimp paste if you ask, which means I can actually eat a Thai salad for once!

I had the veg Tom Yum soup and the chili-lime eggplant salad. The soup was light and flavourful, with a lovely garlic broth. The salad was perfectly simple, with the chili and lime flavours really coming through. Portions are just right.

Don't skip the dessert: the coconut and mango sorbets are fabulous.

The decor is lovely, not cutesy at all. And our waitress was both attentive and friendly, never hovering.

It's definitely worth a drive out to Walkley for this one.
