I had a nice meal at Go 55 the other night. It is in the old Tsukasa space, and one of the chefs has been there since then and through the penultimate incarnation as Kobawoo or Kowasa or whatever it was. Went there once and not again. I understand the new owners are in the nightclub business.
Was told that Tsukasa chef Kawasaki is now at a more fusiony place (with a Y) near Hollywood & Franklin. Anyway, based on one visit, I would say that Go is more traditional and fresher than its immediate predecessor but neither as rigorous nor as exciting as Tsukasa. They did produce some lovely saba off the menu, and the uni was terrific. I think it's a good time in general for uni.
It was good. Sushi was better than sashimi, with obvious attention to rice/fish ratio and temperature. I will try again before deciding that Sushi Gen is still the only place to go dt (save R23 when one is in the mood for that sort of thing).
What put me off a bit from Go were: pre-cut fish (not all but many), empty restaurant, chefs not forthcoming in suggesting or providing more good fish (even after I bought them a beer).
I loved having 3d serious option of Tsukasa back when and hope Go 55 may yet take become that place for me.
Decor is unchanged from the past two incarnations, at least.
