4 winos seeking the best of Portland

Groomsmen | Jun 1, 2006 12:18 AM

I am heading to Portland with my wife and a couple we often go out with. More often than not, our nights out start early and end late. We are in our early thirties, all live in DC, like to try new restaurants (We all went to The Inn at Little Washington together), and want to treat ourselves to one great dinner in Portland.

Our 4 personalities are best described as: Two well traveled ladies who like the urban thing (they will no doubt wear designer jeans, high heels and be toting expensive handbags). They might lean more towards the scene I have heard described for Bluehour. Neither woman is pretentious and both can belly up to a bar, but they probably won't stand for a "rundown" even if that is the best food in town. The two men are high-school chums. One is a self-described foodie with a bias towards the Alice Waters/ slow food school of thought. He is not particularly interested in the scene described at Bluehour but more interested in something more idigenous to Portland. The other is a value hound and fairly easy. We like our wine and might even get a bit boisterous, so a quiet candle-lit bistro would not be our ideal.

Where do we go for a great meal that will keep everyone happy and still get local flavor?
