21P

Just had dinner at 21P with some friends (it's on the corner of...21st and P, where BeDuCi used to be) and had a very good meal. The menu is quite eclectic, with all sorts of unusual combinations (which the waiter also pointed out is a sort of theme for them).

The dishes we ordered included for starters: coconut-encrusted scallops; lobster-rabbit crepe; seafood gumbo and mixed green salads, all of which were very good but the scallop was excellent. For main courses we had: coffee-encrusted NY strip; meatloaf; wahuu with some sort of crust; and a lamb tenderloin. Of these, the lamb was the best, very rich, flavorful and interesting, followed closely by the NY strip (my dish), which had a very robust flavor and spice provided by a habanero pepper sauce. The meatloaf disappointed by being too dry.

We did not have dessert, and for wine we had a bottle of Frogs Leap Sauvignon Blanc (several of our party were not into red wine). The service was a bit amateurish at times, but nothing unforgiveable. And the prices were not outrageous for the Dupont area.

Based on our experience, I would recommend the place for an interesting dinner out.
