We just returned from St. Martin and I noticed there weren't too many recent posts, so I thought I would
add one about our exeriences with new and old favorites. Firstly we were surprised at how prices had gone up, we missed a year, and everything was a little more pricey.An island friend brought it into focus for us when she said it was a real challenge to feed her family on a budget. We stayed at Sol e Luna in Mt. Vernon on the french side, where we had the luxury of being steps away from our favorite restaurant. The smells that wafted up to our room every evening were always tempting.
Christian's bouillabaise was as delicious as we remembered, there was a scallop tartare special that was delicately seasoned, and the flambeed bananas with chocolate mousse plus a passion fruit rum shot capped off the meal nicely. Several people had reccommended Palm Beach on Orient Beach as a great place to hang out , and your beach chairs are free if you reserve lunch. And what a lunch! Carefully prepared fish, appetizers and salads, and the setting was perfect. Definitely a high class spot to spend a beach day.That night we went to Au Grain de sel in Cul de Sac.on the road to the Pinel ferry, and had a wonderful french takeout pizza and salad:even the pizza was presented in its box with a voila flourish!
We also had dinner at Ti Buchon, across the street, another night, where the owner Momo kept us entertained and the food was very good, including a lobster ravioli and bouillabaise, and a spectacular chocolate dessert. We tried the new restaurant Effet Mer, on the ocean side near the lolos in Grande Case, with an innovative menu, fish selections of the day and also a reasonable pris fixe which included tableside smoked marlin under a cloche, friendly service and a delcious trio of desserts. We also had lunch at Talk of the Town, our favorite lolo in Grande case and Rosemary' s near the market in Marigot. There is also a new mobile lolo set up in the parking lot of the US Market in Hope Estate. A delicious to go lunch including a whole grilled red snapper was only $11.00! F inally, we visited our friend Tony at Poulet D Orleans (located where the road from Orient Beach curves downhill towards Orleans) for a tasty chicken and fresh "old wife" fish dinner. Our final meal was at Sol e Luna- every dish was superb and you really can't get a better dinner anyplace! We can't wait to return!
