I'm taking my wife to Singapore for one night to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary in October. Given Singapore's growth as Asia's up-and-coming destination for fine-dining, I decided I would like to splurge on a dinner for the both of us.
I had pretty much made the decision to go Jaan @ Swissotel until I heard about L'Atelier by Joel Robuchon. Both of their degustation menus look very good and are roughly priced the same. Jaan has the advantage of great views over Marina Bay while L'Atelier is opened by a legendary / celebrity chef and I really like the counter-dining concept.
The last thing I want is to spend SG250++ on a meal that my wife won't enjoy. She is not a very adventurous eater and is not very open to new dining experiences like I am (this is why I ruled out Iggy's and Andre, because I doubt if she'll appreciate the whole molecular gastronomy thing). However we did dine at a 1 michelin-starred restaurant in Napa Valley during our pre-honeymoon and she enjoyed it very much.
We both hate pretentious fine-dining restaurants where the food is expensive but the taste is just mediocre. We eat home-cooked and hawker food almost on a daily basis. So the foodie in me is crying for a revelation!
