Thanks to someone on Chowhound, I was tipped off to this little gem of a restaurant in Bayville. We went for the first time Saturday night. It was one of the best meals we have had in almost forever........
I had the Ransom Chowder as an appy - named for the beach across the street - it was a clear soup, not tomatoey, with little cubes of veggies (including parsnip! a nice surprise) and whole clams. DH had the seafood combo appy - it came out on a lazy susan - three dishes, one with mussels in garlic wine sauce, shrimp on another, and calamari on the third. I tried the calamari and they were wonderful. We then split an order of the homemade primavera pasta as a second course. Strips of delicate pasta with herbs imbedded in them, tossed with fresh peas and greens in a delicate creamy sauce - too good! I had the striped bass with a crispy crust for my main, Himself had the rib eye. We split the chocolate bundt cake with a huge dollop of whipped cream for dessert. My diet went to hell and I couldn't have cared less.........it was well worth it.
This is a tiny place, so if you go - and you should - a reservation is a good idea. The address is 18A Bayville Avenue and the number is 516 628-0124. One of the chef/owners came out to speak to us and told us they had been open for seven months, and are doing pretty well, even though they haven't advertised at all. I'm not surprised; this place is fabulous.
