Creole in the Castro

Self-avowed flaccid-waffle-hater ChowFun_derek was delighted by the opening of Criolla Kitchen in the old Bagdad Café space in the Castro. He liked the crunchy, juicy fried chicken, pecan pie, and—of course—the waffles.

According to the menu posted on Grub Street, those waffles come in four batter flavors: original crispy, yam-yam sweet potato, johnny-cake corn, and savory herb.

SouthToTheLeft enjoyed the shrimp and grits and the fried chicken enough to plan a return visit once the lines die down, but thought the food wasn't a good value and the spare design aesthetic made for a noisy dining experience.
