The Famed Seafood Stew of Brazil

Moqueca is the much-beloved seafood stew from northeast Brazil, from the Bahia and Capixaba regions. The Capixaba version involves onion, garlic, cilantro, palm oil, and coconut. And now, for the first time, you can get a real Capixaba-style moqueca in Los Angeles, says streetgourmetla, at Moqueca. “It’s the most extensive Brazilian menu in the LA area, perhaps the U.S. And, only one of two places in the US specializing in comida capixaba. This restaurant would fit in just fine in the upscale Sao Paulo neighborhood Jardins district, a modern, elegant presentation and space showcasing a unique regionality,” says streetgourmetla.

They serve eight distinct moquecas, including fish and plantain versions. There are many rice dishes too, including a delicious arroz con polvo (rice with squid), says Snackish.

“This may be the most exciting restaurant I’ve come across in years,” says streetgourmetla. Snackish agrees: “All was excellent and gets the Snackish seal of approval.”
