Make Your Own Corn Dogs

The Texas State Fair is over. Did you make it out there this year? I’ve heard that the selection of deep-fried foods there, like everything else in Texas, is BIG.

Not to worry if you couldn’t afford a ticket to Dallas. As always in culinary matters pertaining to the Lone Star State, the Homesick Texan has come through for us with a recipe for making “Corny Dogs” at home.

Not your average corn dog, the Homesick Texan patterns her deep-fried dogs after Fletcher’s Corny Dogs, which have been available at the Texas State Fair since the 1940s. The secret is peanut oil, and lots of it, which gives the corny dog its crisp outside. Once you’ve made your own, it will be hard to go back to the kind in the box.
